Money Review

With 2011 right around the corner, J and I have been discussing our goals for next year. Our lives have changed a lot this year and it is time to reevaluate our situation.

Last year at this time we were only working part time. We were both making barely above minimum wage. We hadn't bought our house yet and were living rent free at a family owned property. Even then, we were just scraping by.

This year will be different. January will be the first full month at my new job and J has had a better job for several months now. Now that we will have a surplus each month we are very excited to allocate it towards achieving our goals.

We've already scheduled a bi-annual family budget meeting for the last weekend of December. What, doesn't everyone do that?! I think it will be good for us to sit down and get back on the same page again. So much has changed!

I'm not sure what all J wants to discuss, but my agenda is:

  • Retirement
  • Savings goals (vacation, new vehicle, rental down payment)
  • E-fund size
  • Budget
  • Investment strategies
  • De-cluttering the house
